Characteristics of Casting and Forging

Casting is a process of forming metal by heating it enough to melt it, then pouring this molten metal into a mold, where it solidifies into the desired shape. The advantage of this process is that it enables relatively flexible integrated molding. Forging, on the other hand, involves hammering or pressing metal to compress internal voids, to make crystals finer, and achieve the intended shapes with greater strength. It is an effective method for making products requiring strength.

Casting enables rounded shapes to be produced with ease. We make the most of this advantage of casting, producing blocks, fishing gear, and other products shaped to allow gentle contact with ropes and nets, in order to help reduce wear. Casting also makes it possible to thicken sections where loads will be applied, and to reduce waste by making other sections thinner — by doing so, we are able to offer lightweight yet strong products, at reasonable prices.

At ASANO, our strength lies in our long-standing experience in developing cast products, but we also use forged parts where high strength would be required. For example, we use forged swivels for blocks, which hang from high places during use, in order to make these parts particularly strong. By combining the unique characteristics of both cast and forged parts, we can produce products that are lightweight and compact, yet strong.
